Machine Knitting: Beginner Beanie Workshop

  • Thread Den 329 Brunswick Street Fitzroy, VIC, 3065 Australia (map)

In six hours, you'll go from never having touched a knitting machine to wearing something you made on one.

Join Lorena of Loré Loré for a full day of machine knitting at Thread Den in Fitzroy. Working in a small group, you'll work through each technique on the machine and build toward something you'll actually want to wear, your own pom pom beanie.

Over the course of the day you'll cover casting on, welting, colour and tension striping, tuck stitches and eyelets, and a clean cast-off. To complete your beanie you'll learn to hand seam, work in ends and finish with a pom pom.

All machines, yarn and materials are provided. No experience needed, whether you're completely new to knitting, a hand knitter curious about the machine, or someone who already owns one and hasn't known where to start.

Everything you learn translates across machine models, so if you have one at home, you'll leave ready to use it. This is where most of our machine knitters begin.

“This hands-on workshop gets you straight onto the machine, working through the key techniques you need to start and finish your own pom pom beanie. By the end of the day you'll be heading home wearing something you made yourself.”
